Q: What is a NetPilot?
NetPilot is an all-in-one appliance that provides Internet and E-Mail access, Anti Virus Protection, E-Mail SPAM Filtering and Controls User Web Access.
NetPilot can also make your computer network more accessible for home-based and mobile employees, while at the same time protecting the core network from a range of security threats and preventing sensitive data leaking out of the organisation.
Q: Why do I need a NetPilot?
E-Mail and Internet has become an integral part of the workplace, yet many employers do not control employee Internet and E-Mail access.
The ability to send ‘Private Messages’ via websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, makes it even harder for employers to protect their data. Whilst some monitoring maybe able to take place on e-mail, monitoring this type of correspondence via these sites is almost impossible, unless you block access to the site.
Uncontrolled access to the web is a risky business and can lead to ‘cyber slacking’, whereby pornography, illegal downloads and copyright violation can lead to serious financial, legal and social consequences. News, Sport, Leisure and Social Networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Bebo reduce productivity, whilst a vast number of illicit sites expose user workstations to viruses, spam and spyware.
This type of misuse can expose employers to unforeseen liability, because they are not aware that they have a legal duty to protect employees from harassment and maybe vicariously liable, for the acts of their employees carried out during the course of their employment.
NetPilot can help you ensure your organisations stay’s legal and prevents legal action from employees, customers, suppliers, by implementing an ‘Internet Policy’ within the workplace.
Q: What does NetPilot’s do?
NetPilot will allow you to control employee web access, by restricting access to specific websites and website categories e.g. Facebook / Social Networking, in addition to controlling when employees can access the internet via time bands.
NetPilot provides company wide Web & E-Mail Anti Virus Protection. All emails transmitted and received by NetPilot are scanned; this includes all internal e-mail, not just sent to/from the Internet Service Provider.
Viruses can also be carried via downloads and by browsing web pages that contain viruses. This means that before a user can download a file or access a page, NetPilot virus scans the content prior to the user being prompted to save the file or view the page.
When NetPilot is implemented within a network that has an existing Anti Virus solution, it compliments this and adds a second layer of defence. In fact, if your Internet Service Provider, is also scanning e-mails for viruses – you’ll have three lines of protection, which is highly recommended!
NetPilot also provides E-Mail SPAM Filtering, whereby employers can prevent user’s mailboxes being swamped with SPAM and Junk E-Mail. E-Mail Filtering, allows you to content filter e-mails for keywords, key phrases on all e-mail that are sent / received, whilst also allowing you to block specific e-mail addresses / domains and certain file types being received e.g. mp3.
The ability to work remotely – whether you are in a remote office, on the road or home, is now a common need for employers. NetPilot allows users to securely connect to the corporate network via secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections, whilst also enabling secure mobile communications for e-mails via SSL VPN.
NetPilot’s secure, accredited firewall, will also ensure that you are connected to the Internet, safe in the knowledge that your network accessed by unauthorised users.
Q: What are the advantages of having a NetPilot?
Many companies will be using Microsoft Exchange as their e-mail server and will already have Anti Virus protection on this server – therefore, it may not appear necessary to implement a NetPilot?
Our traditional installation of NetPilot is in fact, alongside Microsoft Exchange. NetPilot compliments Exchange, by being able to virus scan and spam filter all external e-mails that are sent / received by your organisation. Removing the threat of the Exchange server becoming infected by an e-mail virus or bombarded with malicious e-mail.
Envisage NetPilot as being a ‘Nightclub Doorman’, whereby NetPilot sits on the perimeter of your network between the Server and the Internet (as a doorman would do) – and allows only traffic in and out of your connection that it permits e.g. (e-mail, internet access). Should someone attempt to access your system or a virus is sent to you, it will stop them from getting in (to coin a phrase – “if your names not down, you’re not coming in”).
In addition to the unification of security protection, because NetPilot is an all-in-one security device, you do not require multiple pieces of equipment to provide the same level of protection that NetPilot provides in a single appliance.
NetPilot will save time and money, whilst ensuring your employees stay safe on the Internet and protecting you from online liabilities.
NetPilot’s intuitive user friendly interface, via a web browser, means that complex and technical change’s, are very easy to make. Without the need of requiring vast technical knowledge, as would be required on many alternative solutions.
Q: What are the benefits and how will a NetPilot benefit my company?
NetPilot will protect your network from unforeseen security threats, which could lead to your network becoming infected with viruses and spam, if you are not already protected against this.
NetPilot helps ensure that your employees do not waste time ‘cyber slacking’ during working hours, by browsing the Internet for personal or social reasons. This increases productivity of the employee, whilst the employer benefits in the knowledge, that their employees are not wasting time on the Internet.
